The human body is a miraculously functioning machine. When you put your baby to your breast to nurse, your body naturally knows to let down your milk...open the spout so to speak. How to Create a 'Grab It' Button for Your Blog! ~ Easy!

I am always getting emails from fellow bloggers asking me how I made my 'Grab My Button' link. Although I did not personally make these, they were part of the wonderful blog design package by Sheila at Blog Designs by Sheila...but I have done them in the past by myself. When someone asks me how to do it I have a difficult time explaining how to do it and usually end up just making them myself and giving them the html to post it on their blog.

But today I learned about a really great mom blogger named Billie at The Unexpected Mother blog, who has found a way to explain just 'How To' make the 'Grab It' button in really easy to understand steps. She gave me permission to share her instructions with my readers as well. So here it is...

Hey Mommas! Have you ever seen those cute little ‘grab it’ buttons on other blogs and wondered how to get one of them new-fangled contraptions for your own blog? Well, I’m going to make it easy-peasey-lemon-squeazy for you.

Just follow these simple directions:

1) You need a grab it button. You can create one in an image editing software like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. A typical blog grab it button is 125×125. On the other hand, if you don’t feel comfortable creating one yourself, there are tons of graphic designers out there that can create one for you for a small fee.

2) Once you have got your blog button designed, you will need to upload the image to Photobucket, Flickr or if you have WordPress you can upload it to your media file there. You will need to have the URL address for your photo, regardless of where you upload it.

3) Next step: the HTML coding. Make sure you copy and paste the following coding into your HTML editor or into a text box for your side bar. DO NOT USE the WYSIWYG(what you see is what you get) editor for blog posts, it will not work properly that way.

Okay, so using the code I have given you above, all you will need to do is change the highlighted coding to reflect your blog information. For example, where the coding says http://www.theunexpectedmother.net, you will need to change the URL address to your blog’s URL. Where the coding says “The Unexpected Mother”, you will need to change that to the name of your blog. Where the coding shows http://theunexpectedmother.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/newbutton2.jpg, you will need to place in the URL address for your blog button.

Note: Be sure to NOT CHANGE OR DELETE ANY OF THE OTHER CODING. Make sure you leave any quotation marks, arrows, etc. If you accidentally delete something, your grab it box will not work properly. If you do delete something, just copy and paste the coding from here again. Better safe than sorry.

Now that you have replaced my information in the coding with your own, you’ve got your very own blog grab it button! Just place the edited coding into your HTML editor for a blog post or into a text box to place it on your sidebar!

Voila! You are all done! You’ve got yourself a pretty new grab it button for your blog! Check out the finished product below!

Birthday Celebrations...

We will be Closed on Thursday February 17th and Friday February 18th because we will be spending that time with our daughter and granddaughter for their Birthdays.

My oldest daughter, Jessie, is turning 29 years old this week! Wow, it only seems like a few years ago when I turned 29...guess it was really a lot longer, lol. Our granddaughter, Sydney, is also turning 4 years old this week. Sydney was almost born on her Aunt Jessie's birthday, but fell short by just 2 days. Her mother was happy though because she was actually due on Valentines Day... if you have ever had a baby go over your due date by even one day, you know it feels like a month! I know all about that because both of my daughters were 9 days overdue.

This year we wanted to do something special for both of them, and decided to combine their birthday's into one really nice party. So we will be away from the store for a few days to spend this time with two special girls in our family. I hope you will understand.

Our absence will have no effect on our Thrifty Thursday event this week. I have a really special Deal for you this week. HOW TO: Claim Your Facebook Page Name -Create a Short, Memorable URL

REPOST: I guess this would technically be the 2nd Edition of the Original Post about Claiming Your Facebook Page Name. I have had many requests for this information and have sent links to many people who have those really long, impossible to remember facebook urls. For that reason I though I should post it again, with a little update here and there of things I have learned since the first post.

If you have a Facebook page for your blog or business then you want to be sure that you have 'Claimed Your Name.' What does that mean? It means that the name you entered in Facebook as your business may not truly be 'yours' on Facebook. There is another step to complete so that the URL for your Facebook page looks like this:

http://facebook.com/TheBabyStorePlus

instead of this:

http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/TheBabyStorePlus/3181573989331?ref=ts

Besides making sure that someone else doesn't use your blog or business name in their Facebook URL, it also makes it so much nicer to provide someone with your shortened, easy to remember url.

Claiming your name is very easy to do...although Facebook doesn't make it very easy to find the instructions on how to do it. I found the instructions a long time ago and have been sharing them with others ever since...so I thought it would be simpler if I just posted the instructions here for everyone to use, rather than me digging out my saved doc file every time someone wanted them, I can just refer them to here.

These instructions are quite simple, but you must follow them to the letter (no matter how dumb the instruction might sound, and don't skip ahead or change words that do not specifically say to change them).

Assuming that you have already created your Facebook Page...do the following:
1.) To start, make sure you are signed in to your personal facebook account.

2.) In the Browser Window, paste (or type the URL below EXACTLY AS YOU SEE IT (DON'T change the word "username":

http://facebook.com/username then hit go (or enter).

3.) A new page will open with a box that says something to the effect of: "Your username has been set....." and will most likely show your personal facebook user name like this: http://facebook.com/JaneDoe. (or whatever your personal account name is) and just below that it, it will say: Set a user name for pages. Click on that link.

4.) Another box will open just below that. It says: Each page can have a username....." Click on the drop down box arrow to see your pages. Scroll down to the name of your blog or business page that you created, and click on it.

Then follow the instructions to create a user name as close to your actual business name as possible so it will make it easy for people to remember and be able to find you on facebook. BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT SPELLING BECAUSE YOU CANNOT CORRECT THE USER NAME ONCE IT HAS BEEN CREATED! Then it will show you a URL for your new page, like mine: http://facebook.com/TheBabyStorePlus). From then on you will be able to just use that URL instead of the really long nonsense ones.

I hope it works for you on the first try. If not simply start from the beginning and read the instructions closely. Facebook does have a minimum requirement of 25 fans before they will allow you to 'Claim Your Name'.

NOTE ABOUT OLD URL's: For those concerned about having to go back to every place that you have placed your old url and changing it to the new shortened one...don't worry. Laurie of "Grandma Sez So" and I got to test that theory out recently. She had her old facebook url in the signature line of her emails, so after she created her New Facebook Page URL {http://www.facebook.com/GrandmaSezSo}, we tried both the new and old urls, and they both still worked. She is such a sweet person, you should go 'Like' her page!

IRS Decision a Victory for Nursing Mothers Everywhere!

IRS Decision a Victory for Nursing Mothers Everywhere

Breastfeeding Equipment to be Allowed as Medical Tax Deduction and Reimbursed by Flexible Health Spending Accounts

Washington, D.C. – In response to a request from Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Tom Harkin (D-IA), and Representatives Sander Levin (D-MI) and Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced they will reverse a ruling that denies equipment used to help women breast feed from being covered as a health care expense. The previous ruling excluded breast pumps from coverage under flexible health spending accounts and made them non-deductible on tax returns.

Merkley, Harkin, Levin, and Maloney wrote to IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman in November to call for the decision to be reversed. Senators Merkley and Harkin were joined by 9 other Senators; 32 other House members joined Reps. Levin and Maloney.

In response to today’s decision, Senators Merkley and Harkin and Reps. Levin and Maloney released the following statement:

“Today’s decision is a huge victory for nursing mothers everywhere. Modern medicine has documented numerous health benefits linked to breastfeeding, including a reduced risk of illness in infants and a reduced risk of cancer in mothers. And because breastfeeding is so effective in preventing disease, it also happens to save billions in health care costs. We thank the IRS for their careful consideration and quick response.”

Additional Background

A tax ruling by the IRS last year disallowed breast pumps and other breastfeeding supplies as medical deductions, thus also excluding them as permissible expenses under flexible health spending accounts.

Rep. Maloney and Sen. Merkley secured a provision in health care reforms passed earlier this year that employers of hourly workers are be required to provide breastfeeding employees with “reasonable break time” and a private, non-bathroom place to express breast milk during the workday, up until the child’s first birthday.

Breastfeeding is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization for all children under six months.

Twenty-four states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico have laws related to breastfeeding in the workplace; fully 43 states and the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands have laws which allow women to breastfeed in any public or private location.

We're Starting a NEW Event this week and You're Invited to Participate!

I am trying something new. I sometimes have products that I need to clear out fast, like when I only have a few left of a discontinued model, or I ordered way too many {like when I thought I ordered a quantity of 12, but actually ordered a quantity of 12 'Cases'} or I got a Super Deal from one of my vendors and want to pass the savings on to you. So I thought it would be fun to make a weekly event of such a Special Limited-Time, Limited-Quantity, Special with Drastically Discounted Prices! This will allow me to move out odds and ends or get inventories of certain items back in manageable quantities, Plus, it would give our readers a chance to scoop up some really great bargains.

I am going to call this our "Thrifty Thursdays" Sales Event and post the deals at 8:00am (MST) each Thursday morning. If you subscribe via email then you should receive an email at approximately 9:00am - 11:00am, but you can also just visit our blog at 8:00am (mst) on Thursday's for the new post each week...you don't want to miss a great deal waiting on the email announcing the special.

We will be hosting the "Thrifty Thursdays" Specials for a few weeks to see how well they are received. If you want to see the weekly event continue, then please help us get the word out by sharing this event with your friends and family, and posting about the event on your facebook wall or on your blog. The more participation...the longer we will continue to have the events each week and the better the deals will get.
