RECALL: FAF Childrens Necklaces Sold Exclusively at Walmart

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Issued the following:

FAF Inc. Recalls Children's Necklaces Sold Exclusively at Walmart Stores Due to High Levels of Cadmium

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Children's Metal Necklaces

Units: About 55,000

Importer: FAF Inc., of Greenville, R.I.

Hazard: The recalled necklaces contain high levels of cadmium. Cadmium is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The recalled jewelry is shaped as a metal crown or frog pendant on a metal link chain necklace in a crown hinged box. The packaging has the words "The Princess and the Frog" on it and contains the following model numbers and UPC codes:
Crown Model # 4616-4187 UPC # 72783367144
Frog Model # 4616-4190 UPC # 72783367147

Sold exclusively at: Walmart retail stores nationwide from November 2009 through January 2010 for $5.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take this recalled jewelry away from children. Consumers should return the recalled jewelry to any Walmart store for a full refund or a free replacement product.

RECALL: Regal Lager to Repair CYBEX Strollers

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada today announced a voluntary recall repair of Regal Lager CYBEX Strollers due to risk of Fingertip Amputation and Laceration Hazards. Consumers should stop using the recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: CYBEX Strollers

Units: About 1,100 in the United States and 90 in Canada

Distributor: Regal Lager Inc., of Kennesaw, Ga.

Hazard: The stroller's hinge mechanism poses a fingertip amputation and laceration hazard to the child when the consumer is unfolding/opening the stroller.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received one report of a child placing his finger in the stroller's hinge mechanism, resulting in a finger fracture.

Description: This recall involves Ruby, Onyx and Topaz models of CYBEX umbrella strollers. "CYBEX" is printed on the side of the strollers.

Sold at: Department and juvenile product stores nationwide between August 2009 and November 2009 for between $140 and $260.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled strollers and contact Regal Lager to receive a free hinge cover retrofit kit.

1. Boy's Three-Piece Santa Sets Recalled by Macy's Due to Choking Hazard, http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml10/10119.html

Name of Product: First Impressions Boy's Three-Piece Santa Set

Units: About 9,600

Importer: Macy's Merchandising Group, Inc, of New York, N.Y.

Hazard: Loose buttons on the suit's jacket may easily detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.

Incidents/Injuries: No injuries reported.

Description: This recall includes First Impressions boy's three-piece Santa Sets in sizes 0-24 months, including a jacket, pants and hat. For units sold at Macy's and on macys.com the UPCs are: 0689439416622, 0689439417131, 0689439417148, 0689439417155, 0689439417162, and 0689439417179. For units sold at the Navy Exchange stores the UPCs are: 0706254537346, 0706254537353, 0706254537360, 0706254537377, 0706254537384, and 0706254537391. For all products the tracking label information sewn into the side seam of the top and bottom includes: Style 9131, Supplier 22155, Mfg 34837, Aug. 2009, Macy's Inc.

Sold at: Macy's and macys.com, including locations in Puerto Rico, from September to December 2009, and at U.S. Navy Exchange stores from November through December 2009 for about $20 to $40.

2. Horse Toy Figures Recalled by Blip Toys Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard, http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml10/10120.html

Name of Product: Nature Wonders HD Pinto Horse Toy Figures

Units: About 15,000

Importer: Blip Toys, of Minneapolis, Minn.

Hazard: The surface paint coating on the horse contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: This recall involves the Nature Wonders HD pinto horse toy figures with model number 92093. The plastic horse is white with brown spots and measures about 4 inches tall. The model number and "Nature Wonders HD" are printed on the retail tag wrapped around the horse's leg.

Sold by: Walmart stores nationwide from January 2009 through July 2009 for about $4.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled toys away from children and contact Blip Toys to receive a free replacement toy.

Name of Product: Danbar Knight Hawk Toy Helicopters

Units: About 6,000

Importer: RadioShack Corp., of Fort Worth, Texas

Hazard: The battery housing under the helicopter canopy can overheat while charging, posing a fire hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received one report of a fire that started while a store demo toy was charging. No injuries or property damage have been reported.

Description: This recall involves Danbar Toys Knight Hawk 3D remote control helicopters. The helicopter can be identified by model number 006047 marked on the back of the controller and the Knight Hawk 3D logo on the front of the controller. The product was sold at RadioShack as catalog number 600-0566 (60-566) for ages 8 and up.

Sold at: RadioShack stores, RadioShack dealer franchise stores nationwide and at www.radioshack.com from October 2009 through November 2009 for about $60.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the helicopters away from children and return the toy to the nearest RadioShack store for a full refund.

The Online Shopping Site is almost ready! I continue to keep plugging away, uploading inventory as fast as I can. My fingers and my laptop (that is glued to me every waking moment), are both going to need a vacation when the page is finally up. Although I will not have all of our inventory listed when launched, and will still need several weeks if not months to get everything included, it will contain a lot of inventory, in addition to many items that I don't currently stock in our brick & mortar store.

Graco Strollers Recalled Due to Fingertip Amputation and Laceration Hazards

Hazard: The hinges on the stroller's canopy pose a fingertip amputation and laceration hazard to the child when the consumer is opening or closing the canopy.

Incidents/Injuries: Graco has received seven reports of children placing their fingers in the stroller's canopy hinge mechanism while the canopy was being opened or closed, resulting in five fingertip amputations and two fingertip lacerations.

Graco manufactured two different styles of hinge mechanisms for these stroller models. Only strollers or travel systems with a plastic, jointed hinge mechanism that has indented canopy positioning notches (see photo below) are included in this recall. The recalled strollers were manufactured between October 2004 and February 2008. The model number and manufacture date are located on the lower inside portion of the rear frame, just above the rear wheels.

Sold at: AAFES, Burlington Coat Factory, Babies "R" Us, Toys "R" Us, Kmart, Fred Meyer, Meijers, Navy Exchange, Sears, Target, Walmart and other retailers nationwide from October 2004 and December 2009 for between $80 and $90 for the strollers and between $150 and $200 for the travel systems.

We "Love" The NEST, Four-Corners Child Advocacy Center...

For our first quarterly charity event we will be celebrating Valentines Day by raising funds for

the local charity that we "Love" the most...The NEST, Four-Corners Child Advocacy Center of course! I love The NEST because I so completely appreciate what they do for abused children and their non-offending family members in our community. I love them so much that I recently became a member of their board of directors.

The NEST provides a safe, child-friendly environment that eases the emotional trauma experienced by children during the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases, as well as many other community services that help to prevent child abuse. They have been serving child victims of abuse and their non-offending family members since 1992.

We are working on the final details of this event so I can only give you a little hint...this event will make it Free to Donate!!! That's all I'm going to tell you right now...I will be announcing the exciting details by Tuesday, Janauray 26th, at the latest. New Online Shop Coming Soon...

We have been strictly a 'Brick & Mortar' store since we opened in February 2008, but very, very soon The Baby Store Plus will be Launching our New Online Shop! I have been busy working on building the site, and entering all of the inventory details. Although we will not have everything listed when we first launch the page, we hope to eventually have about 80% of our store merchandise available on the website, plus many other products that we don't currently have in our store.

We will offer a wide variety of delivery methods, including Free In-Store Pick-up for our local shoppers. This will allow anyone to make purchases online and at a reasonable cost (only actual shipping charges) choose to either have the order shipped to themselves, directly to a recipient, OR have the order available for in-store pick-up at no cost!

I have been working on the shop all month long and hope to launch the page by the end of January 2010...so be sure to join our email list to be among the first to receive notice of our official launch!

Yet Another Dorel Crib Recall

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued the following for immediate release:

Dorel Asia Recalls to Replace Cribs; Pose Strangulation and Suffocation Hazards. One infant death has been reported as well as 10 injuries to infants.

Hazard: The drop side hardware can fail causing the drop side to detach from the crib. When the drop side detaches it creates a space in which an infant or toddler can become entrapped and suffocate or strangle. In addition, the recalled cribs can pose a serious entrapment and strangulation hazard when a slat is damaged. This can occur while the crib is in use, in storage, being put together, taken apart or reassembled; or during shipping and handling.

Reports: CPSC and Dorel Asia SRL received a report of the death of 6-month old child from Cedar Rapids, Iowa who became entrapped and strangled in a crib after the drop side hardware broke. The crib continued to be used after the parents tried to repair the drop side themselves. CPSC and Dorel Asia received reports of 31 drop side incidents. In six of those incidents, children were entrapped between the drop side and crib mattress. Three children suffered from bruises as a result of the entrapment. In addition, CPSC and Dorel Asia received reports of 36 incidents of slat breakage, including seven reports of bruises and scratches to children and two reports of entrapment that resulted in no injury.

Sold at: K-Mart, Sears and Wal-Mart stores nationwide from January 2005 through December 2009 for between $120 and $700.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled cribs, find an alternative safe sleeping environment for your child, and contact Dorel Asia to receive a free replacement kit. Consumers should log on to www.dorel-asia.com to order the free replacement kit to prevent child entrapment in these cribs. The repair kits will be provided to owners within the next several weeks.

mportant Message from CPSC: CPSC reminds parents not to use any crib with missing, broken, or loose parts. Make sure to tighten hardware from time to time to keep the crib sturdy. When using a drop-side crib, parents should check to make sure the drop side or any other moving part operates smoothly. Always check all sides and corners of the crib for disengagement. Disengagements can create a gap and entrap a child. In addition, do not try to repair any side of the crib, especially with duct tape, wire or rope.
